Welcome Back!!!

August 7, 2018

Dear Parents,

A new school year is upon us once again! As principal of Beckford Charter for Enriched Studies, I would like to welcome back our returning students and families and hope you all had an enjoyable summer. To our new students and families who have recently joined Beckford, a heartfelt welcome.

On the first day of school, tables will be set up and labeled with letters that correspond with your child’s last name.  At this table, students will be given their room assignment.  Students are to line up with their new teacher outside the assigned classroom as soon as the bell rings at 8:03 a.m.  Many factors have gone into the rigorous process of placing students in their respective classrooms.   Among these are academics, language, social and emotional needs of the children, etc. We also must follow District and State guidelines concerning class size, gender balance, students with special needs, and general ability.  All classroom assignments are tentative and are subject to change.  NO room changes will be made for the first few weeks of school. Then, if changes must be made, parties involved will be notified and the changes will be made as soon as it is feasible.  Our concern is to offer the best educational opportunity for all students.  We cannot honor requests for particular teachers.

Beginning at dismissal on Tuesday, August 14th, and throughout the school year, the campus will be secured before and after school.  Kindergarten students will be dropped off at the Vanalden gate only.  Kindergarten rooms 13, 14 and 23 will be dismissed from the Vanalden gate and rooms 17 and 18 will dismiss through the Tulsa gate.  Older siblings may exit through the kinder gate with their kindergarten sibling.

Grades 1-5 will exit through the Beckford Valet gate only.  Students will be walked to the gate by the teacher. Children will be dismissed through the gate once their parent arrives.  Any students not picked up by 2:45 (M, Wed, Thurs, Fri) or 1:45 (Tuesdays) will be brought to the office and an adult will need to come into the office to pick up the child.  More detailed information can be found on our website and will also be sent home.

If your child is going to the Youth Service program (grades 2-5 only), you will need to fill out the application which can be found on our website or in the front office.

All parents are welcome to volunteer after 8:15 am.  Important information about signing up to volunteer will be sent home in the first week of school.  We welcome all volunteers to help in the classrooms, support our valet line, or participate in our numerous PTA events.

A kindergarten and new family orientation will be held the first day of school, Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 8:15 a.m.  All applicable parents and students should report to the auditorium.  At that time, teacher assignments will be given to all kindergarten students. The teachers will be there to escort the children to their respective classrooms. Parents, please remain in the auditorium. When the students have departed with their teachers, the orientation will begin.

To all our families, returning and new, I look forward to working with you and your children as we provide an enriching learning environment for all of our students. We believe it is important for the home and school to work together to provide a quality education for each and every one of our students. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our children.

Respectfully,

Shelly Brower
