    Welcome Back Beckford 2022-2023

A new school year is upon us once again! As principal of Beckford Charter for Enriched Studies, I would like to welcome back our returning students and families and hope you all had an enjoyable summer. To our new students and families who have recently joined Beckford, a heartfelt welcome.

On the first day of school, tables will be set up  in the quad area and labeled with letters that correspond with your child’s last name.  At this table, students will be given their room assignment.  Students are to line up with their new teacher outside the assigned classroom as soon as the bell rings at 8:03 a.m.  Many factors have gone into the rigorous process of placing students in their respective classrooms.   Among these are academics, language, social and emotional needs of the children, etc. We also must follow District and State guidelines concerning class size, gender balance, students with special needs, and general ability.  All classroom assignments are tentative and are subject to change.  NO room changes will be made for the first few weeks of school. Then, if changes must be made, parties involved will be notified and the changes will be made as soon as it is feasible.  Our concern is to offer the best educational opportunity for all students.  We cannot honor requests for particular teachers.

For the first week of school, you will be able to walk your child to their classroom and pick them up from the classroom.

Beginning on Monday, August 22, 2022 and throughout the school year, the campus will be secured before and after school.  All first-fifth grade students should be dropped off using the Beckford gate in the morning. The campus will open at 7:30 am for students to play before school. We will not be scanning Daily Passes this school year.

Kindergarten students will be dropped off and picked up at the Vanalden gate. Transitional kinder (TK) will be dropped off and picked up at the Tulsa gate.  Older siblings may enter and exit through the TK or kinder gate with their younger sibling.

Students in grades first-fifth have two options for being picked up.

    • Valet System-Students using our valet system will exit through the Beckford gate. This system requires that you remain in your car and your child will walk directly to your car. We will have adults help the students find their car. More detailed information will follow the first week of school.
    • Walk UP System- Parents who are walking up to the gate to pick up their child will wait at the front gate on Tulsa.  Children will be dismissed through the gate once their parent arrives.
    • click here and fill out this form to give to the teacher the first week of school.  We will also send home a hard copy of the form with your child.

Any students not picked up by 2:45 (M, Wed, Thurs, Fri) or 1:45 (Tuesdays) will be brought to the office and an adult will need to come into the office to pick up the child.

For parents who may need afterschool care, we have the following options:

    • YMCA-Register with the YMCA located on Corbin in Porter Ranch.  The bungalow is located on the Beckford campus.
    • PEAK or call (661)219-5185
    • Youth Services-ONLY for students in grades second-fifth. You will need to fill out the application which can be found on our website or in the front office.

To all our families, returning and new, I look forward to working with you and your children as we provide an enriching learning environment for all of our students. We believe it is important for the home and school to work together to provide a quality education for each and every one of our students. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our children.

    Shelly Brower

Thank you to Delilah and Isabella Yen and their family for nominating Beckford for the opportunity to receive this generous donation.

We would like to thank and recognize the hard work and dedication of Mrs. Stefani Thomas from the Granada Hills Charter High School (GHCHS) Visual and Performing Arts Department and her group of volunteers, who diligently completed the "Spirit of Innovation" portion of the mural, started in 2015 by volunteers from the UCLA Volunteer Center, on the yardside of our Lower Grade building over 2018 Summer break. Beautiful and inspiring!
